Sobox Image Viewer - SI_Viewer
version 2.3.0.0

The introduction of digital technology in medicine as the DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) standard to the transmission and the archiving of biomedical digital images and of sanitary informations has removed the real necessity to maintain the radiographic videos on classic magnetic tape used to acquisition, visualization and archiving.
Nowadays, this images are also in digital format from the acquisition phase allow to the technicians connected in a DICOM network to view and analyze them in real time. This digitalization of the work allow to obtain a greater productivity in time, space and money.

A DICOM viewer is a tool used to visualization DICOM files. The DICOM protocol is a standard realized also to make easy the visualization, the archiving and the transfer (communication) of medical images.

The images are encoded on files with a definited structure, in which there are not only the information relevant for the image itself, but also the data relevant for the executed study (US, TAC, RMN,...), the patient name, study date, physician, ecc. (in field named TAGS). In this way the image assumes a meaning that gone over the aspect figurative and it represent the medical study in its wholeness.

The DICOM images, are composed by one or more frames, besides this, they must have some well defined resolutions that don't have to modify the interpretative content. The decoding and the visualization of DICOM files require dedicated systems suitable to interpret all information present into the TAGS. However, a digital image or a digital video offers a practical advantage that is represented by the visualization facility, in this way the images can be used for presentations, projections and videoconferences.

The DICOM is a standard and therefore theoretically all the files produced according to this protocol have the same characteristics that it makes them univocal in their structure and interpretation. Always theoretically a display device of file DICOM should visualize any file DICOM produced from any other biomedical device adherent to the standard. In reality some contained characteristics in the TAGs are an exclusive information defined by the producer and they are only interpretable from the same system, accordingly the file is not visualizable from other viewers.

SI_Viewer (Sobox Image Viewer) is a software solution to viewing, archiving and transfer of files in DICOM 3.0 format. It is used on more common echocardiography and angiography systems, it has been tested with images created by Siemens-Acuson, General Electric, Toshiba and Philips.

SI_Viewer allows to convert DICOM images into alternative formats (JPEG, BMP, AVI) hence improving the communication and to clear an intrinsic limitation of DICOM standard, i.e. the fact to be an exclusive format of dedicated systems.

SI_Viewer allows to transform a Windows Personal Computer in a workstation to receive, transmission and local archiving DICOM images, it accept more DICOM associations in concurrently manner.

SI_Viewer integrates a local database of relational type that allows to index automatically the DICOM files received from local server (DICOM Storage Service SCP), in addition it allows to add or remove manually the DICOM files.

SI_Viewer in this version is provided with of advanced tools for measurements, video playing and calibrations, both manual and automatic, these latest can easily stored in the database, then the same calibrations can be used in next measurements.

SI_Viewer integrate an easily tool to burning the files on CD/DVD or create ISO images, in addition it allows to create automatically the backup on CD/DVD for all files least used.

SI_Viewer propose it as a complete tool for the visualization, the archiving, the transfer, the converstion and the measurement of DICOM file.

SI_Viewer is Portable Software, it can be run also from an USB pendrive, memory card etc.
